Chinese Medicine & MeWhat is Chinese Medicine?Chinese Medicine is a gentle yet effective form of therapy based on nature. It works with the body’s energy and uses nature’s pantry (e.g. plants) to heal the body and restore wellness. There are five parts to Chinese medicine:* 1. Food 1. Food – this is considered to be the first line of defence for re balancing the yin and yang in the body and to maintain wellness. – this is the first line of defence The types of food to eat or to be avoided will depend on whether there is more yin or yang present in the body. Some methods of cooking support yin while others support the yang. The flavours of the foods (sweet, sour, salty, bitter or pungent) can also be used to assist the yin and yang balance in the body 2. Exercise 3. Massage 3. Massage and Cupping – uses the organ channel systems to remove fluid and energy blockages and restore there natural flow in the body.
There are many different techniques designed to move the blockages at different depths and in different locations in the body 4. Acupuncture 4. Acupuncture – uses specific points on the organ channel systems that connect the organs, limbs, tissues, emotions and senses to treat conditions that cause pain, discomfort, weakness, congestion, itchiness (syndromes) to re balance the yin and yang.
The points selected are tailored to you to strengthen your body, eliminate symptoms and restore the yin yang balance. 5. Herbal Medicine 5. Herbal Medicine is based on the 5 different flavours (sweet, sour, salty, bitter or pungent) and 4 temperatures (hot, cold, cool, neutral).
These characteristics enable it to enter the organ channels, The herbs are administered in a formula that is specifically tailored to treat your condition. It uses several herbs that collectively direct, reinforce, modify and assist each other in delivering the therapeutic effect. The formulas have been tried, tested and used for over 2000 years to successfully treat human illness 2. Exercise – Tai Chi is used to support the energy flows in the body.
Exercises are linked to the organ channel systems in the body which provides the basis for acupuncture treatment. Activating and moving the energy helps to move the fluids in the body. This is achieved by training the body to synchronise breathing with exercise The first two keep the body healthy and balanced; massage, acupuncture and herbal medicine treat the body when it becomes imbalanced and blocked causing discomfort and illness. Does Acupuncture hurt? No, there is no pain . Many people feel relaxed and re-energised after the treatment. There are two stages to Acupuncture. The first is the entry of the needle through the skin; then the needle is gently manipulated. The patient may feel a dull ache; this may be more intense at acupuncture points where there is less flesh e.g. foot Laser Acupuncture is also available; no needles are used. |
