How does Chinese Medicine work?
Chinese Medicine considers the fluids to be Yin and the energy to be Yang.
When we are unwell the equilibrium of yin and yang is upset causing one to overpower the other. Chinese Medicine offers a holistic and unique system that understands the complex linkages and how this effects the yin/yang balance of our body organs, senses, tissues and emotions.
It uses this to pinpoint where the imbalance is occurring. Yin and Yang do not occur in fixed quantities; one can transform into the other. Chinese medicine uses this to assist your body into re balancing the Yin and Yang through reducing the excess or augmenting the deficiency. By improving the yin/yang balance Chinese Medicine can treat your condition which is known as a syndrome.
What is a syndrome?
Syndromes are indicative of an underlying blockage in fluid and energy flows and serve as an early warning sign that our bodies are not in balance. When ignored, over time, they can lead to the development of more acute or chronic conditions. In Chinese Medicine they indicate the root of the imbalance enabling us to treat the symptom and what caused it e.g. instead of using pain killers for frequent headaches, we can identify and treat the underlying cause of the frequent headache.
Syndromes include conditions that we often choose to:
Self medicate such as digestive problems (habitual loose bowels, diarrhoea, constipation, acid regurgitation) or pain relief (back pain, headaches)
Ignore as being part of a stage in life. e.g. childhood and, teething, colic, adolescence and acne, anxiety, depression, painful, irregular or, light, heavy menstruation; adults infertility, insomnia, post partum; the aging process e.g. menopause, impotence, tinnitus, insomnia, urinary problems.
Recognised from western medicine e.g. diabetes, asthma, cough, common cold and flu, oedema.
