Our HealthWhat happens when we are unwell? In a healthy body, the fluids and energy circulate and flow freely nourishing our mind and body. We become unwell when body fluids and energy are insufficient or the fluids have thickened, blocking or slowing down the natural flow. Now, parts of our body are undernourished and stagnant like a pond. This interferes with our healthy functioning and produces symptoms such as weakness, congestion, pain, itchiness or discomfort, disturbance to direction or volume in the flow of body fluids. Why do we become unwell?Lifestyle – working long hours, not taking regular exercise, insufficient sleepEmotions – too much worry, fearful of life, suppressing anger, thinking too much, holding on to grief. External Pathogen – these correspond to bacteria and virus. In Chinese medicine they are equated to cold, heat, dryness, dampness, wind ; they often occur in combinations wind-heat, cold-damp. They give characteristic signs and symptoms and are also influenced by the state of yin and yang in the body” Trauma – sudden injury to the muscles, bones, mind Diet – eating too much of a certain type of food e.g. too much hot, spicy or greasy or sweet or salty or cold food. |
